How to travel with your Pet in INDIAN RAILWAY
- Choose the correct train & class
- Pets only allowed in AC first tier
- Also book a coupe or cabin [set of 2 or 4 tickets] as pets not allowed on single ticket.
- Request reservation office to allot you a full coupe/cabin – after booking the ticket , visit station master office submit a written request for allocating coupe or cabin
- Get a fitness certification from a VET
- Visit Parcel office & pay pet charges – these charges vary as per the distance between the travel location
- Pack for your pet & board early & settle in
Pet travel is also possible via few airlines in India as named below
Air India – pets upto 5 kg allowed in cabin
Akasa air – pets upto 7 kg allowed in cabin
IndiGo / SpiceJet / Go First – Pets typically not allowed in cabin, only as cargo (with conditions).
But please check with respective airlines before booking the tickets as policy keep changing.

- Vet Health certificate
- Vaccination List
- Pet Carrier/ crate – IATA approved.
At the airport
Arrive 2-3 hours before departure for domestic flights
Check in your pet – check in at regular counter if cabin travel or at cargo terminal [Pets traveling as cargo must be declared and processed as “live animal shipment.”]
Pet Travel in Cargo – treated as live cargo & need advance booking [48-72 hours]
Pet travel in Cabin – upto 7 kg dogs allowed, carrier should fit under the seat, limited seat availability.
